She seems very smart, but she's never been a judge. She comes from a political world, and the last theing we need is more politics on the bench.

If she can truly build consesus and break the partisanship of the court, more power to her. And having three women on the bench can't hurt, either.

Who? What the heck is a Solicitor General? What has this perrenial understudy accomplished that we could evaluate?
Is being a woman an accomplishment? Is not having a resume worhty of challenge the best thing American politics can offer these days?

A Vote for Kagan Is a Vote for Gay Marriage:

May 10, 2010

A vote for Elena Kagan is a vote for “marriage equality,” which features in two key cases that will shortly be before the Supreme Court: Perry v. Schwarzenegger, which arises out of California’s Prop 8 but will apply to all 50 states, since it seeks to establish a federal constitutional right to gay marriage; and Gill et al. v. Office of Personnel Management, which seeks “only” to overturn the federal laws defining marriage as one man and one woman.

There has been an effort to obfuscate Kagan’s position on gay marriage using statements she made when nominated to be solicitor general, but these efforts are all either sad or laughable. Take, for instance, this Cornell law professor: He pretends to believe that, when Kagan stated that she has never taken a public position on whether the Constitution ought to be read as protecting gay marriage, she somehow meant that she believes the question should be left up to the political process. This is shameful to the author; he must know better.

Part of this is a deliberate attempt to mislead the American people. Reasonable disagreement is one thing; outright deception is another.

Kagan waded into the DOMA case, amending a brief that offered “responsible procreation” as a reason for DOMA to instead explicitly reject procreation and child wellbeing as a reason for defining marriage as one man and one woman — undermining the law she claims to be defending. We’ve seen this tactic in state litigation before: Attorneys general pretend to defend the marriage law but sabotage the case by explicitly rejecting procreation as a reason for marriage. (See Jerry Brown in California.)

If you doubt my reading of Kagan’s record, see the Human Rights Campaign’s press release, which specifically cites her support for “marriage equality” in cases before the Supreme Court as a reason for voting for her.

HRC and Maggie Gallagher agree: A vote for Elena Kagan is a vote for finding a constitutional right to gay marriage that will overturn marriage laws in every state.

CCR Executive Director Vincent Warren Critical of Elena Kagan’s Nomination to the Supreme Court / http://tinyurl.com/2g3xh28
NEW YORK - May 10 - In response to President Barack Obama's nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the United States Supreme Court, Center for Constitutional Rights Executive Director Vincent Warren issued the following statement:

"When the president nominates a woman or man to sit for life on the highest court of the land, we must look seriously at the broadest and most long-term implications seating that person will have for our country. At the Center for Constitutional Rights, we have fought at the forefront to hold back presidential overreach and the dangerous growth of executive power, particularly as it concerns torture, detention, surveillance and racial profiling, areas where the government has flouted the law most blatantly over the last decade. I am sad to say that Solicitor General Elena Kagan's record indicates a troubling support for expanding presidential powers, something we must be vigilant about at this time. President Obama would appear to be seeking to appoint a Supreme Court Judge who will endorse his policies and appease conservatives. This is not the way to make a decision that will affect our nation for decades to come."

The Center for Constitutional Rights is dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Founded in 1966 by attorneys who represented civil rights movements in the South, CCR is a non-profit legal and educational organization committed to the creative use of law as a positive force for social change.

People are commenting on Kagan's lack of judicial experience. I would remind everyone of Obama's complete lack of experience.

But he's doing a fabulous job, right? ? ?

Isn't it wonderful that Obama had decided to take American taxpayer dollars to the tune of 108 BILLION and just give it to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to bail out Greece.

All those hard-working Greek socialists rioting in the street need financial help with their retirement funds ... and Obama thinks we should help. How kind he is. How generous he is. How much Europe will love Obama now.

Silly me, I thought it was the purview of Congress to make budgetary decisions/allotments?

But who knows, since Obama doesn't know what he shouldn't be doing, he can just plow along. That's the advantage of no experience. Deniability. But Europe loves him!

Does that make you feel good all over?

The Wall Street corporate Obama Democrats picked Gay Kagan because she is a corporate apologist and believes the president should have dictatorial powers, and they can say they picked a Gay.

It is the same mentality when Wall Street corporate Bush and Cheney picked Condi Rice another corporate apologist who believes the president should have dictatorial powers and they can say they picked a Black.

Chevron seen settling case on Iraq oil:
Chevron Admits to Violating “Oil-for-Food” Program While Condi Rice on Board. / http://tinyurl.com/ogkgxk May 8, 2007

Chevron, the second-largest American oil company, is preparing to acknowledge that it should have known kickbacks were being paid to Saddam Hussein on oil it bought from Iraq as part of a defunct United Nations program, according to investigators.

The admission is part of a settlement being negotiated with United States prosecutors and includes fines totaling $25 million to $30 million, according to the investigators, who declined to be identified because the settlement was not yet public.

The penalty, which is still being negotiated, would be the largest so far in the United States in connection with investigations of companies involved in the oil-for-food scandal. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/08/business/08chevron.html

Maggie Mama- Supposedly the reason is Greece is "too big to fail" and there would be a domino effect pushing the world into a depression.

So where have we heard that before..Wall Street? We can blame Bush policies or we can blame the Greek Socialist. Personally, it does not matter today what got us here. It matters how we can prevent this from continuing.

People say, "Bush got us into this mess by allowing the banks and corporations to run unregulated and we blame Obama for helping get us out."

Helping? What a brilliant strategy. Taking our money and giving it away? Anybody big spender can do that. How about finding ways to eliminate too big to fail dependency in the future by allowing us to be more independent. No, independence, self reliant, conservative values, simply don't exist in the Socialist playbook.

President Bush didn't have a token black.
Very unfair and deceptive to President Bush as usual Caspian. President Bush had four blacks in his cabinet, Colin Powel, Condaleeza Rice, Alphonso Jackson and Rodereick Paige where Obama, whose black only has two, Eric Holder and Ron Kirk.President Bush also had more Hispanics than Obama in his Cabinet.

----------------------------

Bill you missed my point as usual.

The media sensationalizes Blacks, Gays, and the politicians play the "CARDS" to fool the masses.

So we can think Bush was a good person picking a Black or Obama is a good person giving a Gay a chance on the Supreme Court.

With All Due Respect,
Clarence Thomas

There is definitely a trade-off in the sense that that there are not as many opportunities to interact with peers and develop the same level of social maturity as students who attend private and public schools do, but even that is changing.
