Should There Be A Penalty Tax For American Outsourcers?

June 7th, 2010   (566 views )

The latest jobs report shows job growth has stalled. Meanwhile, American companies continue outsourcing jobs to places like India and China, where workers are paid pennies an hour. Some Legislators want to add a penalty tax for American Outsourcers.

There should be a penalty tax. Also their income should be taxed at regular corporate rate and not allowed to keep their profit overseas. Several years ago they were allowed to bring in profits non taxable. These trade agreements are unfair because they are allowed to ship all their products to the US and only allow a small fraction of our products to be sold in their cou ntry

Why has jobs slowed? Because the idiot President that we have keeps increasing the cost to do business here. You can put on all the taxes you want, but as long as this President makes it uncompetitive to do business here (health care, cap and tax, raising minimum wages) companies will keep outsourcing jobs to more cost competitive countries.

i am just wondering but i thought the gov,t. give tax credit to companies because they provide jobs for the people within the state or community that these companies are operating in

Bear in mind the "hidden" cost of outsourcing.
Every job/worker here in America contributes to the Social Security system. Something that we're always hearing "will go under" someday.
So, every company that uses an "outsourced" worker, therefore does not contribute to the social security fund, ensuring that it will go under that much sooner.

This is a good topic that doesn't get enough coverage in the media.

Yes, i think there should be a penalty tax.

The revenue from this tax should be used solely to help American workers that have been displaced by utsourcing.

Some possible uses for the funds:
1. Provide education or training to update or acquire new skills
2. Provide financial assistance if necessary to make ends meet
3. Provide counseling to deal with loss of livelihood

Union Sundown
Well, my shoes, they come from Singapore,
My flashlight's from Taiwan,
My tablecloth's from Malaysia,
My belt buckle's from the Amazon.
You know, this shirt I wear comes from the Philippines
And the car I drive is a Chevrolet,
It was put together down in Argentina
By a guy makin' thirty cents a day.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Well, this silk dress is from Hong Kong
And the pearls are from Japan.
Well, the dog collar's from India
And the flower pot's from Pakistan.
All the furniture, it says "Made in Brazil"
Where a woman, she slaved for sure
Bringin' home thirty cents a day to a family of twelve,
You know, that's a lot of money to her.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Well, you know, lots of people complainin' that there is no work.
I say, "Why you say that for
When nothin' you got is U.S.-made?"
They don't make nothin' here no more,
You know, capitalism is above the law.
It say, "It don't count 'less it sells."
When it costs too much to build it at home
You just build it cheaper someplace else.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.
Well, the job that you used to have,
They gave it to somebody down in El Salvador.
The unions are big business, friend,
And they're goin' out like a dinosaur.
They used to grow food in Kansas
Now they want to grow it on the moon and eat it raw.
I can see the day coming when even your home garden
Is gonna be against the law.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

Democracy don't rule the world,
You'd better get that in your head.
This world is ruled by violence
But I guess that's better left unsaid.
From Broadway to the Milky Way,
That's a lot of territory indeed
And a man's gonna do what he has to do
When he's got a hungry mouth to feed.

Well, it's sundown on the union
And what's made in the U.S.A.
Sure was a good idea
'Til greed got in the way.

BRING BACK BUSH!
OBAMA should kick his own ass and the Democratic Congress's ass first!!!
Stomping on all our lifelong allies while befriending the enemy, who pisses on our flag is Obama's one mission in life.

-----------------------------------------
England Is Now Freaking Out About The U.S. Reaction To BP:
The UK is freaking out right now about the U.S. reaction to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Major Conservative political leader and Mayor of London Boris Johnson has called President Barack Obama's language "anti-British" after the President called BP 'British Petroleum' rather than its modern name.

Conservative Lord Tebbit's quote is just too vitriolic to paraphrase.

From The Daily Mail:

"The whole might of American wealth and technology is displayed as utterly unable to deal with the disastrous spill - so what more natural than a crude, bigoted, xenophobic display of partisan political Presidential petulance against a multinational company," said Lord Tebbit.

Much of the furor over the fallout from the BP spill in the UK stems from the potential damage to the company's dividends, which are linked to many pensions in the country.

Now UK Prime Minister David Cameron is going to speak personally to U.S. President Barack Obama over the issue, in an effort to calm the tensions between the two countries.

But the UK's Spectator blog doesn't think Cameron has a chance of stopping Obama on his warpath, as the U.S. president has no choice but to attack with his poll numbers sagging.

London mayor is unhappy with O’s BP bashing:

Boris Johnson, the mayor of London has had enough of President Obama’s blame BP game . “Well I do think there is something slightly worrying about the anti-British rhetoric that seems to be permeating from America…I would like to see cool heads and a bit of calm reflection about how to deal with this problem rather than endlessly buck-passing and name-calling…. I do think it starts to become a matter of national concern if a great UK company is being continually beaten up on the international airwaves.”

Johnson’s major concern, and that of other British politicians, is that huge numbers of British pensioners are losing their retirements because every time America blames BP the company’s stocks takes a serious hit. “BP's shares fell by 12 percent at one point today on the London market, after hitting their lowest level since 1997 in New York trading overnight, amid intensifying political attacks in the US…. The slump means the firm's share price has almost halved since the spill started.”

Mitt Romney isn’t surprised because he says that overall, Obama’s performance in relation to the oil disaster, has more to do with blaming others than it does showing true leadership . Romney says Obama has “spent his time blaming people,” and “he hasn't even spoken with the chief executive officer of BP. How can it be that the person who's actually working to try and cap this spill hasn't even spoken to the president of the United States?” But why should Obama’s attitude be any different about the oil spill than it is about every other problem that comes up. In this case he’s blaming BP, everywhere else he blames Bush.

As for the British being upset with Obama’s tone, they probably aren’t going to get much satisfaction, especially since the president is the one, along with others in his administration, who have made it clear they don’t care for the “special relationship.” It’s doubtful that anyone in the administration is going to be move by complaints about grannies and grandpas in England.

Fox News Poll: White House Could Have Done More, Moved Faster On Spill:

American voters find the Obama administration's response to the BP oil spill lacking, and a majority thinks the administration is in over its head, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday.
fox news

American voters find the Obama administration's response to the BP oil spill lacking, and a majority thinks the administration is in over its head, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday.

Fifty-seven percent think the administration could have done more and reacted more quickly to the spill in the Gulf of Mexico. That's 20 percentage points higher than the 37 percent who think the administration did as much as it could as fast as it could.

Not unexpectedly, most Republicans (72 percent) think the administration could have done more. A majority of independents (63 percent), as well as a substantial minority of Democrats (43 percent), agree.

And while many voters — 36 percent — think the Obama administration is "up to the job" of fixing the problem in the gulf, a 54 percent majority thinks the administration is "in over its head."

Allies everywhere feeling snubbed by President Obama:

Washington Post

The contretemps between President Obama and Israel needs to be seen in a broader global context. The president who ran against "unilateralism" in the 2008 campaign has worse relations overall with American allies than George W. Bush did in his second term.

Israelis shouldn't feel that they have been singled out. In Britain, people are talking about the end of the "special relationship" with America and worrying that Obama has no great regard for the British, despite their ongoing sacrifices in Afghanistan. In France, President Nicolas Sarkozy has openly criticized Obama for months (and is finally being rewarded with a private dinner, presumably to mend fences). In Eastern and Central Europe, there has been fear since the administration canceled long-planned missile defense installations in Poland and the Czech Republic that the United States may no longer be a reliable guarantor of security. Among top E.U. officials there is consternation that neither the president nor even his Cabinet seems to have time for the European Union's new president, Herman Van Rompuy, who, while less than scintillating, is nevertheless the chosen representative of the post-Lisbon Treaty continent. Europeans in general, while still fond of Obama, have concluded that he is not so fond of them -- despite his six trips to Europe -- and is more of an Asian president.

The Asians, however, are not so sure. Relations with Japan are rocky, mostly because of the actions of the new government in Tokyo but partly because of a perception that the United States can't be counted on for the long term. In India, there are worries that the burgeoning strategic partnership forged in the Bush years has been demoted in the interest of better relations with China. Although the Obama administration promised to demonstrate that the United States "is back" in Asia after the alleged neglect of the Bush years, it has not yet convinced allies that they are the focus of American attention.

U.S. officials have any number of explanations for these concerns: that they are based on misunderstandings, the product of minor errors in execution, simply Bush's fault. By now, however, a moderately self-reflective administration might be asking why so many allies, everywhere, are worried.

Yet it isn't that surprising. Who has attracted attention in the Obama administration? The answer, so far, seems to be not America's allies but its competitors, and in some cases its adversaries. If there were a way to measure administration exertion in foreign policy, the meter would show the greatest concentration of energy, beyond the war in Afghanistan, has been devoted to four endeavors: the failed first-year attempt to improve relations with Iran; the ongoing attempt to improve relations with Russia; the stalled effort to improve cooperation with China; and the effort -- fruitless so far -- to prove to the Arab states that the United States is willing to pressure Israel to further the peace process. Add to these the efforts to improve relations with Syria, engage Burma and everything with Af-Pak, and not much has been left for the concerns of our allies.

This is bad enough, but compounding the problem has been the administration's evident impatience with allies who don't do as they are told. Europeans get spanked for a pallid commitment to NATO defense spending even as they contribute 30,000 troops to a distant war that European publics mostly don't believe in. Japan gets spanked when its new government insists on rethinking some recent agreements. In both cases, the administration has a point, but it's always easier to hammer allies when they misbehave than to hammer tough competitors such as Russia or China.

The president has shown seemingly limitless patience with the Russians as they stall an arms-control deal that could have been done in December. He accepted a year of Iranian insults and refusal to negotiate before hesitantly moving toward sanctions. The administration continues to woo Syria and Burma without much sign of reciprocation in Damascus or Rangoon. Yet Obama angrily orders a near-rupture of relations with Israel for a minor infraction like the recent settlement dispute -- and after the Israeli prime minister publicly apologized.

Before NAFTA and massive outsourcing of jobs from America, domestically produced goods were more than competitive in the market because there were import duties and taxes applied to foreign made goods sold in the United States that made the price of those foreign made goods far higher than the domestically produced goods. Then greed stepped in - code name: NAFTA. Manufacturing in the United States nearly ground to a halt. The wealthy business owners got a pass from our federal government to go to Mexico,
Central America, South America and any third world country where production could be had for pennies and produce goods and then ship them back to the United States duty-free and sell them for astronomical prices far exceeding the cost of production. Factories closed in the United States. Walmart, whose slogan was "Made in America" before the death of its founder, Sam Walton, is now one of the greediest of the multinational corporations because not only are nearly all of the goods sold in Walmart foreign made in China, they have literally forced many american manufacturers to either move their production to China if they want Wamart to sell their goods (because the US manufacturers can not meet the low prices China will meet to produce the goods) or be forced out of business. GREED. The Bible says "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall" Proverbs 16:18. When we have the GOP touting the likes of the TEA Party candidates who basically want to go back to the good ole days when a small percentage of white people owned 90% of the wealth of this country and black people were still bound by chattel slavery. Look at the TEA Party candidates who have made their ways into the media recently: they are racists, not very intellectually bright, and the ones who are in the legislature think its a good idea to make the people suffer by stalling votes on bills that will help people. Problem is of course, helping the people does not further their insipid agenda which is just a very thinly veiled racism. Sarah Palin and Christine O'Donnell go back to your witchcraft and your Nightriding - America does not need the likes of you!!

If there was another world war, the United States would not emerge as the superpower we were after World War II simply because we DO NOT MANUFACTURE ANYTHING ANYMORE! We are at the mercy of foreign countries like China (who has a trade deficit with the United States into the billions, thanks to the “most favorite nation” status given to China) for our most basic goods. Look at the TEA Party candidates who have made their ways into the media recently: they are racists, not very intellectually bright, and the ones who are in the legislature think its a good idea to make the people suffer by stalling votes on bills that will help people.
